Last year Lidl had a gluten free promotion in association with Kelkin... Guess what?! It's back!!!
From the 3rd to the 9th of March Lidl are stocking the shelves with Kelkin Gluten Free products until stocks last. What's more is the price list they gave me has some items at cheaper rates than their competing supermarkets. The photo is just a snap shot of what they sent me to try!
Now, of course I've tried some of them before, but a few were new to me! Like the raspberry Jaffa cakes! I am not a huge raspberry fan so they weren't particularly my taste, but my other half loved them and I did have a few comments on the Facebook page about how gorgeous they are. The orange Jaffa Cakes were all mine though! They are one of my favourite snacks to have in the press. They remind me of my childhood and raiding the press for those mini-tubs of jaffa cakes!
Other snacks in the Kelkin range include teacakes, chocolate chip cookies, apricot jam tartlets, and chocolate chip muffins. These cookies are actually the ones that my parents have stocked in the house when I visit! I love them with a glass of milk or cup of tea.
If you want something a little lighter they do have rice cakes in plain and chocolate! The caramel chocolate are thinner that the other rice cakes and they are just so tasty. I lived on rice cakes in the beginning so I really developed a taste for the flavours.
Breakfast is one of my favourite meals. Oats are normally avoided but these are (according to the box) "specially grown in a way that makes cross contamination with wheat, barley, or rye." I tried them. They're actually quite tasty. The Buckwheat Flakes have a bad rep... You either love them or hate them. Some like the crunch and others think they taste of cardboard. The apple and coconut helps the cardboardness, but it could still do with a lot more of the flavouring as the small bits fall to the bottom and you don't get much in the first few bowls.
Now, Lidl sent out the Kelkin tomato and basil sauce. It is a nice quick sauce, but I actually don't use sauces that much as I make my own. In fact, the other two jars pictures are staples in my cupboard. I use Lidl's chopped tomatoes and passata di pomodoro all the time to make my chili and bolognese. The pesto has no gluten related ingredients in the list and it's super cheap. I normally have the red pesto too, but it was sold out the last time I dropped in.
Pasta!! So the Kelkin pasta tends to stick together a little on me. I actually prefer the Lidl own brand gluten free pasta. It's only €1.49 per 500g so it's the cheapest on the market and holds together really well. The trick with gluten free pasta is more water volume and keep stirring for 8-9 minutes.
I love the Kelkin Sourdough bread. It's on special this week. It's great for sandwiches and you don't always have to refresh it. They're going to be selling it for €2.99. Normally, it's around the €3.99 mark. Lidl actually have my own bread too that's in stock all year round. They buy it in frozen, so it's not suitable for re-freezing, and they bake it and put it on the shelves. There's a loaf and long hot-dog like buns too.

The products are only available while stocks last, apart from their own range stuff, so get to the shops next week!
Thanks for the heads up! I'll be heading down on Monday!
ReplyDeleteWould have preferred to see Greens or Mongoza rather than Daura.. but as a Coeliac, I'm used to taking whatever I can get!
I totally know the feeling. I've been trying loads over the last while. Daura was the first gluten free beer I tried!
DeleteHello, thank you so much for the heads up! one a question:
ReplyDeletewhere can I buy all this products online? I live in Madrid and I don't find this product in nowhere. In Lidl of London I found all this product, but in Spain Lidl haven't got these products. The oat gluten free is fantastic! I love it.
Thank you.
