Don't be such a gluten!

A few weeks back I met the lovely Jenny from Don't be such a gluten and tried some of her delicious treats.

Don't be such a gluten is a very interesting name for this product. It's quirky and unique. It's humorous to those in the community. It's just a fun brand name!

So what do they produce? Cake. Little espresso shot shaped cakes containing all natural ingredients. They are ultra cute and now come in new packaging. Four cakes to a box and will be sold in Fallon & Byrne and selected cafés and restaurants across Dublin.

They are a fresh product and are baked and delivered by Jenny daily to retailers. As I said the ingredients are all natural and she experiments with different flavours to produce some amazing little treats. The experimentations change according to the available fresh ingredients.

The cakes themselves are quite dense and moist, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. The wet ingredients pull the flavours together and, importantly, keeps the cake together. It does leave a little grease on a napkin, but that makes you feel like you're eating something naughty, right?

The flavours really come through in these. I loved the orange and my other half loved the coffee. A good shot of espresso in the cake does the trick. The chocolate is very chocolate. Normally this isn't a huge problem for me, but I split it because I've been cutting down the sweet stuff and it was so much chocolatey goodness I couldn't handle it.

I cannot stress that these are fresh products. They need to be consumed within 3-5 days of purchase, which is just after baking because of the super baking and delivery skills of Jenny.

I refrigerated them when I got them. I picked more up. Don't forget about them though by leaving them in the back of the fridge... even in an airtight container it may not be pretty. They are made to be eaten so eat up!

My nearest retailer is a stall at The Green Door Market. Keep an eye on their Twitter for updates on their retailers!
